I. Judgment After life, An Everlasting decree
Rev 22:11 He that is unjust, let him be unjust still; and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still; and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still; and he that is holy, let him be holy still.
Heb 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment;
1Cor 15:42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption; 43 It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; 44 It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body...51 Behold, I show you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed. 52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the sound of the last trump; for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
Alma 16:230 For after this day of life, which is given us to prepare for eternity, behold, if we do not improve our time while in this life, then cometh the night of darkness, wherein there can be no labor performed. [L 34:32-35] 232 ...that same spirit which doth possess your bodies at the time that ye go out of this life, that same spirit will have power to possess your body in that eternal world. 234 Therefore the Spirit of the Lord hath withdrawn from you, and hath no place in you, and the devil hath all power over you; and this is the final state of the wicked.
Alma 19:56-58 ...but this much I say, that there is a space between death and the resurrection of the body, and a state of the soul in happiness or in misery, until the time which is appointed of God that the dead shall come forth and be reunited, both soul and body, and be brought to stand before God, and be judged according to their works; Yea this bringeth about the restoration of those things of which have been spoken by the mouths of the prophets. The soul shall be restored to the body...to their proper and perfect frame. [L 40:21-23]
The restoration to the perfect frame OF THAT SPIRIT, not many generations of it. The
space between death and resurrection assures that.
Alma 19:64 I say unto thee, my son, that the plan of restoration is requisite with the justice of God; for it is requisite that all things should be restored to their proper order. [L 41:1-4] 19:65 Behold it is requisite and just, according to the power and resurrection of Christ, that the soul of man should be restored to its body...every part of the body should be restored to itself. And it is requisite with the justice of God, that men should be judged according to their works; and if their works were good in this life, and the desires of their hearts were good, that they should also, at the last day,be restored unto that which is good; 19:67 And if their works are evil, they shall be restored unto him for evil: therefore, all things shall be restored to their proper order; everything to its natural frame; mortality raised to immortality; corruption to incorruption; raised to endless happiness, to inherit the kingdom of God, or to endless misery, to inherit the kingdom of the devil;
Alma 19:77 O, my son this is not the case; but the meaning of the word restoration, is to bring back again evil for evil, or canal for carnal, or devilish for devilish; good for that which is good; righteous for that which is righteous; just for that which is just; merciful for that which is merciful; [L 41:13]
See also 19:91-94 [41: ] for the probationary state and justice of God.
Rev 21:3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow,...neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away.
Luke 23:44 Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee; Today shalt thou be with me in Paradise.
Mat 25:46 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these my brethren, ye did it not unto me. :47 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment; but the righteous into life eternal. [after life’s works to judgment]
Luke 20:35 But they who shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, through resurrection from the dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage. 20:36 Neither can they die any more; for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection. [ Once in the resurrection...no more lives] 20:37 Now that the dead are raised, even Moses showed at the bush, when he calleth the Lord, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. 20:38 For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living; for all live unto him. [Those who are dead...are ALIVE...same persons...Abraham is Abraham, Isaac is Isaac]
2Cor 5:1 For we know that, if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
2 Cor 5:8 ...I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
2 Cor 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that everyone may receive a reward of the deeds done in the body; things according to what he hath done, whether good or bad.
[After life, eternal life, with Lord, due to the judgment seat of Christ for deeds done]
Luke 16:27 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried of the angels into
Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died, and was buried. 16:28 And in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 16:29 And he cried, and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. 16:30 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus, evil things; but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. 16:31 And besides all this, between us and you, there is a great gulf fixed; so that they who would pass from hence to you, cannot; neither can they pass to us that would come from thence.
Dan 12:2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to
everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
Rev 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and
whoremongers, and sorcerers and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone; which is the second death [after life...judgment]
Joh 5:28-29 Marvel not at this; for the hour is coming, in the which all who are in their graves shall hear his voice. 5:29 And shall come forth; they who have done good, in the resurrection of the just; and they who have done evil, in the resurrection of the unjust. [Plan: 2 resurrections: the just and unjust....not multiple rejoinings of body and spirit]
Job 14:10 But man dieth, and wasteth away; yea, man giveth up the ghost, and where is he? 14:12 So man lieth down, and riseth not; till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep. [resurrection at the beginnings of the new heavens and new earth]
Moi 10:31 And now I bid unto all, farewell. I soon go to rest in the paradise of God, until my spirit and body shall again reunite, and I am brought forth triumphant through the air, to meet you before the pleasing bar of the great Jehovah, the eternal Judge of both quick and dead. Amen
II. Do we return to the Earth? [Before the resurrection of course]
Job 7:9-10 7:9 As the cloud is consumed and vanisheth away; so he that goeth down to the grave shall come up no more. 7:10 He shall return no more to his house, neither shall his place know him anymore.
Job 10:21 ...I go whence I shall not return, even to the land of darkness and the shadow of death
Job 16:22 When a few years are come, then I shall go the way whence I shall not return
Psa 78:39 ... that they were but flesh; a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again.
2Sam 12:23 But now he [David’s child by Bathsheba] is dead, wherefore should I fast? can I bring him back again? I [David] shall go to him, but he shall not return to me .
2Nep 5:22-29 [L 6:8-11] Who is to return? The Jewish people, not the same people... 22 those who were at Jerusalem, from whence we came, have been carried away captive. 23 ...they shall should return again. 24 ...the Holy One of Israel, should manifest himself unto them in the flesh. 25 And after he should manifest himself, they should scourge him, and crucify him... 26 And after they have hardened their hearts and stiffened their necks against the Holy One of Israel, behold thee judgments of the Holy One of Israel shall come upon them. 27 And the day cometh that they shall be smitten and afflicted. 28 Wherefore, after they are driven to and fro,...they shall be scattered. 29
Nevertheless, the Lord will be merciful unto them that when they shall come to the
knowledge of their Redeemer, they shall be gathered together again to the lands of their inheritance.
15 references to THEM; they are gathered back to their lands...it is the Jewish people,
not the individuals that went to Babylon. They did not come back to reject Jesus, and be
scattered and then 2,700 years later be gathered. It refers to the Jewish people.
RLDS CH 1:600 “I [Joseph Jr] resumed my conversation with Matthias, and desired him to enlighten my mind more on his views respecting the resurrection. He said that he possessed the spirit of his fathers, that he was a literal descendant of Matthias the apostle that was chosen in the place of Judas that fell, and that his spirit was resurrected in him; and that this was the way or scheme of eternal life—this transmigration of soul or spirit from father to son. I told him that his doctrine was of the Devil, that he was in reality in possession of a wicked and depraved spirit, although he professed to be the Spirit of truth itself;...” Nov/10/1835
III. Elijah Returned from the dead as John the Baptist?
Matt 17:13 [Jesus tells us who is an Elias] But I say unto you, Who is Elias? Behold, this is Elias, whom I send to prepare the way before me. [It is a messenger. It is an office/ministry. It is written in the present tense, not the past...whomever he sends, past, present or future]
Luke 1:17 And he [John] shall go before the Lord in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just...,
John 1:21 And he [John] confessed, and denied not that he was Elias; but confessed, saying; I am not the Christ. 1:22 And they asked him, saying; How then art thou Elias? And he said, I am not that Elias who was to restore all things . And they asked him saying, Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No He was “an” Elias” [... came in the spirit and power of Elias. There is another...]
Matt 17:10 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things, as the prophets have written [one in the last days] 17:11 And again I say unto you that Elias has come already, concerning whom it is written, Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me; and they knew him not, and have done unto him, whatsoever they listed. 17:14 Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist, and also of another who should come and restore all things, as it is written by the prophets.
When Elias appeared, it was not John the Baptist, who had already died...it was still Elias.
2Kings 2:11 And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. [He never died... he never changed to another person. He is still Elijah.]
D&C 26:2c and also John the son of Zacharias, which Zacharias he [Elias] visited and gave promise that he should have a son, and his name should be John, and his name should be John, and he should be filled with the spirit of Elias. [Who was this Elias? The angel Gabriel; Luk 1:19] 2e and also Elijah, unto whom I have committed the keys of the power of turning the hearts of the fathers to the children and the hearts of the children to the fathers that the whole earth may not be smitten with a curse.
John 1:28 He it is of whom I [John] bear record. He is that prophet, even Elias, who, coming after me, whose shoe’s latchet I am not worthy to untie...[Jesus is an Elias]
There are many who have come in the spirit and power of Elias, including Jesus Christ.
IV. 3rd and 4th Generation
It is being expressed by some, that people can return to the 3rd and 4th generation...that God does not judge the descendants for the iniquity of their fathers...what does this phase mean?
Exo 20:5 ...I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
(See also Deu 5:9)
Num 14:18 The Lord is long-suffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and
transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers
upon the children unto the third and fourth generation.
Exo 34:7 Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the rebellious; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.
(See Mos 7:114)
D&C 95:5e ...if he shall come upon you, or your children, or your children’s children unto the third and fourth generation, I have delivered thine enemy into thine hands...and then if thou will spare him thou shalt be rewarded for thy righteousness; and also thy children and thy children’s children unto the third and fourth generation...
(See also vss. 5d, 6e, 7e; 100:5c; 102:8d)
So it appears that not only judgments, but blessings are passed on to the descendants of the iniquitous and the righteous. (not the same person coming back 3 and 4 times)
D&C 107:15b,d behold, it behooveth me to require that work no more at the hands of those sons of men, but to accept of their offerings; and the iniquity and transgression of my holy laws and commandments, I will visit upon the heads of those who hindered my work, unto the third and fourth generation, so long as they repent not, and hate me, saith the Lord God.
Judgments continue on the children’s children until the curse is broken by repentance and the power of Christ. Faith and love breaks the cycle of judgments. Faith continues the blessings. Lineage is important to the Lord. Joseph Junior’s seed was blessed to the 3rd and 4th generation: (2nd: Joseph III / Alexander H; 3rd : Frederick – Israel – W Wallace / Arthur M.; 4th : Wallace B / Joseph F) It can be seen in the book of Hebrews 7:9,10 “And as I may so say, Levi also, who receiveth tithes, paid tithes in Abraham. For he [Levi] was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchizedek met him [Abraham].” Levi had not yet been born (4th generation: Abr – Isaac – Jacob – Levi) The blessings and ministry of Abraham was transmitted to the children’s children. But Levi was not Abraham—Abraham did not return; it was the ministry of his lineage. It may well be that many lineal generations are connected in ministry and blessings...that is the mystery of godliness.
IV. Personages appearing later.
Moroni after living on the earth, still appeared as Moroni.
Moses after living on the earth still appeared as Moses in Matt 17.
Enoch will return with his city...as Enoch.
Peter, James, and John appear as themselves.
The 3 Nephites appear as themselves...
Joseph Smith, Jr will return...as Joseph.
V. Reincarnation in other religions.
Reincarnation often teaches as returning as other species. That is totally inconsistent with Christian teachings. The foundation for this thought pattern is not Christian. That is why Islam, Judaism and Christianity have not had reincarnation in their teachings for all these 1,000’s of years. It is not because Reincarnation or Dual Lives is a higher understanding. It is a foreign understanding that for 1,000’s (thousands) of years have been in opposition to the truth.
